BC Place – April 27 2018

Images from the Whitecaps 2-0 win over Real Salt Lake at BC Place.  A largely forgettable match up until the point that the Whitecaps were awarded a penalty, which Christian Techera converted.  However in taking his shirt off during the celebration he incurred a second yellow card and was dismissed from the game. whitecaps vs sounders

mls cup west semi – leg 1

Despite a very vocal and enthusiastic crowd, the Whitecaps and Sounders played out a fairly tame 0-0 tie at BC Place on Sunday. Neither team impressed up front with few clear chances on goal at either end. It was a scrappy affair that surprisingly only produced three yellow cards. At one point, late in the second half the field resembled a hockey rink, with both teams facing off, but after a bit of shoving it quietened down.

whitecaps vs Earthquakes

mls cup knockout

After failing to overcome the San Jose Earthquakes in the final regular season home game of the season just 10 days ago, the Whitecaps last night had to face the same opponents in the knock out round of the MLS Cup.

Despite several chances for both teams, which brought out some spectacular saves, it took until the 33rd minute before the deadlock was broken. Fredy Montero capitalized on a through ball from Kendall Waston, off a Techera corner, to score his first ever playoff goal. September 23 2017 – BC place

A 13th goal of the season for Fredy Montero, and a second half strike from Yordy Reyna helped Vancouver extend their unbeaten run to seven games, and pushed the team closer to a playoff spot.

In truth the Whitecaps could have won by a few more, but missed a number of opportunities to add to the night’s tally.

The team are now on the road with games against Seattle, Kansas City and New York, before they return to BC Place for the final home game of the season against the San Jose Earthquakes on October 15th.

Whitecaps vs Columbus Crew

 September 16 2017 – BC Place,

Saturday afternoon saw Vancouver host another team on a hot streak, Columbus Crew SC.  Whilst a lot of the play got stuck in the midfield, and was frustrating to watch, overall it did not disappoint.  Both teams came away with a point after a 2-2 tie, with the hosts tying up the game 2 minutes into added time.

Vancouver opened the scoring early in the first half with a superb strike from Fredy Montero to beat Zack Steffen.  The lead only lasted four minutes, when former Whitecap Kekuta Manneh played a sublime cross into Ola Kamara who easily beat David Ousted at close range.
