We are very lucky in this part of the world to have more than our fair share of these magnificent looking birds.  The biggest of the herons in North America, they are often seen either standing patiently on fallen logs, high in tree, or wading through the water at low tide fishing for food.

This is by far the bird I have the most images of locally.

Whilst they are common across the lower mainland, so good places to see them include Stanley Park, Maplewood Flats in North Vancouver and Reifel Bird Sanctuary in Delta.
